Have you ever felt price is completely random… I remember first starting out completely confused with my trendlines and fibonnaci all over the charts. One big scribble all over the chart.🤣

Then I stumbled across ICT, a man who could reverse engineer every single move. I was hooked! Even better he was able to read price in real time, he called this ‘Tape Reading’. I remember the first time watching this being done, I couldn’t believe it, all I knew is I wanted to be able to do the exact same thing.

Through tons of trial and error I developed this skill, in reality it’s a never ending goal, you can always improve, but I finally reached the stage where I’d say I’m proficient at it.

Tape Reading

Here I will share an extract of me Tape Reading DXY step by step, lets take a look…

My Draw on Liquidity was the EQHs on DXY, therefore I was looking to short EU from this H1 SIBI (DXY & EU are inversely correlated).

We saw a very nice reaction from EU & DXY, my entry wasn’t filled and at this point I thought there’s no point keeping the missed limit on as its so close to target (DXY EQHs).

At this point in time i nearly stopped looking at the chart because I thought the move was done but you’ll see in a minute how that wasn’t the case.

Luckily for me within the next 15 minutes we ended up retracing leaving more buyside liquidity for us to run.

If the current candle was to close like this then I’m looking for the next H1 candle to expand and hit the draw (this is a neccessary A+ criteria for me to take a trade) - more info on that here…

Now with the H1 framework in play I wanted to see price run higher from this H1 Orderblock/M15 FVG

The M15 candle displaced higher forming a bullish orderblock, now I wanted to see the next M15 candle expand to hit the draw

I was watching EURUSD trying to calcuate risk but it dropped aggressively before I could execute, I was trying to execute inside the red zone, can’t catch them all!

Closing Thoughts

Overall I Tape Read well but I wasn’t able to capitilise unfortunately. As I’ve mentioned before this is the reailty of trading. If there’s one skill you must learn to develop…

It’s the ability to be PATIENT.
